Windows 7 to Windows Julia transformation tutorial

1. Create system restore point


1. Open the start menu, right click on 'Computer' and select 'Properties'.
This should open the 'View basic information about your computer' window in Control Panel.
2. On the left-hand sidebar, click on 'System protection'. A window should open.
3. Click on 'Create...' at the bottom of the window.
4. Name the restore as you wish, and click on 'Create'.

5. Once the restore point has been created, you should get a message stating "The restore point was created successfully." Click OK.

If you encounter any errors, you can easily restore it to previous state:

​

Restoring from a System Restore backup
1. Restart your computer

2. After BIOS/UEFI loading click quickly F8 couple of times

3. Select "Repair computer" and click Enter

4. Wait for load System Repair tool
5. Click on 'System Restore...' at the top
6. Click next, and then select the backup you made previously. (Noted by the name you typed earlier).
7. Select next, and then finish.

System restore will now restore your PC to the way it was before following the tutorial, and hence, should be back to the Windows 7 look and feel.

2. Required updates

 

1. Open the 1 - Required update folder, and 1. Update folder

2. Launch the update based on your architecture (x86.msu or x64.msu)

3. When prompted click OK.

4. Open the 2. Required frameworks folder, and 1. Visual C Runtimes folder

5. Run "install_all.bat" as Administrator

6. Wait for the end installing

7. Open 2. .NET 4.5 folder

8. Run "dotnetfx45_full_x86_x64.exe" installer and follow the instructions

9. When install is complete, restart your PC.

 

 

3. Install the theme

​

1. Open the 2 - Theme folder.

2. Open the 1. UniversalThemePatcher folder, and then launch UniversalThemePatcher for your architecture (x86 or x64).

3. Patch each of the 3 files by clicking the 'Patch' button on the corresponding file.

4. Restart when prompted.

5. Open the 2. Theme folder

6. Copy whole folder to C:\Windows\Resources\Themes

7. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')

8. Select the "Windows Julia Aero" theme.

 

 

4. Start Button

 

1. Open the 3. Start Button folder.

2. Run the OpenShellInstall file, and follow the instructions

3. When install is complete, click on the start button.

4. When the OpenShell settings page opens, click the Backup button at the bottom, and select Load from XML file . Then, open the WinJulia.xml file.

5. Back in the settings window, check the Replace Start Button option, then click Custom and click the Pick image... button. Open the StartButton image, and click OK on the settings window.

 

5 - Taskbar

 

1. Right-click the taskbar and click Properties

2. Check the Use small icons box, and change Taskbar buttons: to Never combine.

3. Click 'Apply' and then 'OK'.

4. Right-click the taskbar, and go to Toolbars>>New toolbar...

5. In the window that appears, paste the following bold text into the bottom text-box

%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

and click Select Folder.

6. Right-click the taskbar, and UNCHECK Lock the taskbar

7. Right-click the Quick Launch text (look to the left of the status icons), and uncheck both Show Title and Show Text

8. Drag the folder to the left of the start button, and change the size to fit the taskbar buttons.

9. Ensure you unpin any taskbar icons from the taskbar. You can add QuickLaunch icons by dragging applications from the start menu to the quick-launch area on the taskbar.

1. Open the 4 - Taskbar folder.

2. Run the 7tt_setup installer

3. Follow the steps to install it

4. Open up 7+ Taskbar Tweaker application from the start menu

5. Open the 7tt_settings image from the folder, and adjust your settings accordingly

6. Close the 7+ Taskbar Tweaker window.

 

 

6 - Login screen

​

1. Open the 5 - Login screen folder

2. Run enable background change.cmd as Administrator

3. Run Win7LogonBackgroundChanger.exe

4. Select 5 - Login screen folder

 

7 - Icons

​

1. Open the 6 - Icons folder.

2. Run the CustomizerGod.exe

3. Click the menu that matches folders name (like Shell Icons, Volume Icons etc.)

4. Click on the icon and select all icons (Ctrl+A)

5. Click on the Change and select folder that matches actually selected menu

6. Repeat steps for each folder (except Desktop Icons)

7. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')

8. Click on Change desktop icons

9. Click icon and open Desktop icons folder and select imageres.dll - repeat the step for each icon

 

Do you have Internet Explorer shortcut on desktop or/and in Quick Launch toolbar? If yes, change icon for it.

 

10. Right Click on the Internet Explorer

11. Select Properties

13. Click on the "Change Icon"

14. Select Internet Explorer.ico from Desktop Icons folder

 

8 - Boot Screen

​

1. Open the 7 - Boot Screen folder.

2. Run the Win7BootUpdater2.exe program as Administrator.

3. In the window that appears, in the Animation menu select Static Image

4. In the file dialog, open the WindowsJuliaLogo.ico file.

5. In Message 1 paste this text - 2004 © Microsoft Corporation

6. In Message 2 paste this text - Windows Julia

7. Set Position to 491

8. Set Font Size to 43

9. Click Apply

10. You can now close the Windows 7 Boot Updater window.

 

9 - Cursors

​

1. Open the 8 - Cursors folder

2. Right Click on the install.inf file

3. Click Install

4. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')

5. Click Change mouse pointers

6. Select ClassicAero Cursors from the menu

7. Click Apply and OK

 

10 - Sounds

​

1. Open the 1 - Required update folder

2. Open the 3. AdvancedRun folder

3. Open folder that matches your architecture (advancedrun-x64 or advancedrun-x86)

4. Run AdvancedRun.exe

5. In the AdvancedRun window, select TrustedInstaller in Run As... menu

6. In Program to Run paste this - cmd.exe

7. In Start Directory paste this - C:\Windows

8. In Command Line window type this - rmdir /s "Media"

9. Type Y and Enter

10. Close cmd and Advanced Run window

11. Copy Media folder from the 9 - Sounds folder to C:\Windows

 

11 - Winver Branding

 

1. Open the 10 - Branding folder.

2. Copy the basebrd.dll file from C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd\ into the Step 10 folder

3. Install reshacker_setup.exe

4. Open Resource Hacker, and drag the basebrd.dll file from the Step 10 folder into the window.

4. On the left-hand side, open the Bitmap folder.

5a. Right-click the 120 : 1033 resource, and select Replace bitmap.

5b. Select Open file with new bitmap... and open j_winver1.bmp from the Step 10 folder, and then click Replace.

5c. Repeat step 5a and 5b for 1120 : 1033 and 2120 : 1033

6a. Right-click the 121 : 1033 resource, and select Replace bitmap.

6b. Select Open file with new bitmap... and open j_winver2.bmp from the Step 10 folder, and then click Replace.

6c. Repeat step 6a and 6b for 1121 : 1033 and 2121 : 1033

7. Repeat 1-6 steps from the 10 - Sounds step

8. In Start Directory paste this - C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd

9. In Command Line window type this - del basebrd.dll

10. Copy basebrd.dll from 10 - Branding folder to C:\Windows\Branding\Basebrd

11. You can now press Win+R, type winver, press enter, and see the new branding!

 

12 - System font and Window Borders

 

1. Open the 11 - System font and Window Borders folder

2. Install WinaeroTweaker-1.40.0.0-setup.exe

3. Launch Winaero Tweaker

4. Navigate to the Window Borders section on the left-hand side

5. Set the Border width to 2, and the Border padding to 6.

6. Select Apply changes

7. Navigate to the System Font section on the left-hand side

8. Select Use the following font and then click the Change system font... button

9. Select Tahoma from the window that appears, and then click OK.

10. Repeat 5-7 steps for the Icons, Menus, Message Font, Statusbar Font and Windows Title Bars sections.

11. Restart your PC

 

13 - Disable Aero

 

1. Open the 12 - Disable Aero folder

2. Run the Disable Aero.bat

If you prefer Aero-based theme simply run the Enable Aero.bat and do not take above steps

 

Becouse Windows will re-enable Aero after restart, we are going to auto-disable Aero:

3. Open the Task Scheduler

4. Click on the Task Scheduler Library section

5. Right-Click on blank space on the list of tasks

6. Select "Import Task..."

7. Open "Disable Aero - Task Scheduler.xml"

8. Click OK

 

14 - Wallpaper

 

1. Open the 13 - Wallpaper folder

2. Right-Click on the Wallpaper.png

3. Set as desktop background

 

15 - Sidebar

 

1. Open the 14 - Sidebar folder

2. Install the Sidebar.exe

 

 

16 - Save your modified theme

 

1. Open the Personalization section in control panel (Right-click desktop, click 'Personalize')

2. Click on the Save Theme

3. Set name as you want

 

17 - Restart PC and enjoy Windows Julia experience
